It may sound cliché, but the key to making you feel beautiful on any given day is confidence. Confidence is the reason that some people always manage to be the centre of attention, regardless of what they look like. And it’s something you can use to your advantage. If you want to look the part, you need to act it, so banish negative thoughts and start giving yourself positive reassurances throughout the day. Focus on the attributes you really like about yourself, and dismiss any negative thoughts about your looks that may cross your mind.


Smile


An instant mood-booster, and another way to look beautiful, is to smile. Don’t believe me? Just try putting a smile on your face, even if you don’t feel like it, and tell me how you feel. In addition to its mood-boosting benefits, it’s been said that smiling makes a person look and feel beautiful. When a person smiles, it causes others to perceive them as more attractive. Talk about an easy way to look better!


Stop the Comparisons


It’s easy to compare ourselves to others and all too easy to fall into the trap of seeing how we measure up to others, but it does nothing for our self-confidence. Every person is a unique individual, and you have positive assets that others may feel they lack. The best way to feel beautiful is to view you as an individual, not as one person in comparison to another.


Try a New Look


Sometimes we’re just stuck in a beauty rut, which can contribute to not feeling beautiful. Why not change things up with a fun makeover? Reinventing your look could provide excitement and the change you need to get out of your rut and feel beautiful again. Switching it up with a new haircut, wardrobe or cosmetics could be just the


change you need.


I have seen some people who are stuck in past decades, because they’re set in their ways or lack the confidence to change things up. But we live in a modern world, and it’s important to act like it. Embrace a style that feels good, and remember to freshen it up with a new colour or cut (of clothes or hair). You’ll gain confidence knowing you look great, and you’ll face the world beautifully.


Watch Your Posture


The way you sit and stand says a lot about the way you think of yourself. Those with good posture signal to the world that they feel confident and beautiful with non-verbal communication cues. Even if you don’t feel beautiful, sitting or standing tall with your shoulders back will radiate your self-assurance to the outside world. Every time you catch yourself slouching over, take a few seconds to correct your posture. You should feel more poised, confident and maybe even beautiful.


Treat Yourself


Sometimes you just need a good pampering session to feel beautiful. When you’re feeling tired, stressed or anxious, you probably won’t be feeling you’re most beautiful. Try taking a break, whether for an hour or a whole day, to get back in touch with your true self. If you’re in a relaxed state of mind, you’re more likely to have positive feelings toward yourself. You can try any relaxing activity, whether it’s an afternoon out at the park (with sunscreen, of course), visiting the salon or purchasing a new outfit. My personal favourite is getting my hair done—it works like a charm on those days I don’t feel beautiful.

Look after yourself during the cold season

Take a relaxing bubble bath


To relax has always been to take a bubble bath, so add a splash of your favourite bubble bath, light a few candles, put on some music and submerge yourself into relaxation. There’s nothing like a good, warm soak to relieve muscle tension, open up your pores and clear your cluttered mind.


Apply a facial mask


A good facial mask doesn’t have to be done at the spa. You can experience that same, high-quality experience at home. Choose a facial mask that has an inspiring scent, like rosemary or mint. Apply it to your face, allow it to dry and simply wait for the results. I love to apply my mask while relaxing in the tub. There’s something about the steam, the bubbles, the aromatic scents and the ability to just chill that really pulls it all together. Masks containing bentonite clay possess amazing skin toning and absorbing properties. Plus, the feel of that silky, smooth clay against the skin really provides you with an authentic pampering experience.


Scrub away the day


There are some days when you just want to scrub all of your problems away. Once you experience how soft and silky your skin feels, you’ll forget about your troubles.

Find time to do… Whatever!


Everyone has something special that they enjoy doing that helps them relax. It might be a bubble bath, a brisk walk, a quick dip in the pool or many other things. Take some time to flip through your favourite magazine or get started reading that book you’ve been putting off. Whatever you do, take that much needed time to pamper yourself.

Never feel guilty for taking the time to take care of you. A little pampering goes a long way and it’s really beneficial to you and everyone around you, so make it happen!

How does exercise make you glow?

Sweating it out


When we exercise, we’re increasing our blood flow to the living layers of the skin. Opening up those sweat glands can push out some of what clogs the pores too. However, it’s important to practice healthy hygiene post-workout. We definitely want to wash off the dirt as soon as possible and not risk re-clogging our pores.


Tone those muscles


When our bodies are toned, our skin takes on a more toned appearance. And the more toned muscles we have, the healthier and more youthful we will look from head to toe. If you wear any kind of body shaping garments, you know exactly what I’m talking about.


Go for the Glow


If you want fabulous looking skin, then it’s time to exercise. That instant, healthy-looking, post-workout glow is undeniable. How do you ask? When your heart gets pumping, the living layers of your skin receive a nice delivery of oxygenated blood and nutrients. When this happens, your circulation is improved, which helps with your skin’s overall glow. You will then start to produce more natural oils, which will provide your skin with that healthy shine.


Stress Less


If you want to clear your mind in pursuit of mental clarity and great skin, then take a long walk, an aerobics class or a swim in the pool. Exercise is wonderful for reducing stress, and if you can achieve that you’ll be able to see it reflected in your skin. Stressed out skin is never a good look. In fact if you can find an exercise routine that you enjoy, it will help to ease that stress.


While exercise can have positive effects on your skin, here are a few cautionary tips:


  • If you’re exercising outdoors, remember to protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun by applying your SPF before you get started.
  • Keep your exposed skin as covered as possible, seek shade when you can and avoid working out during peak sun times.
  • Depending on what type of exercise you are doing, be aware of skin chafing. Tight fitting exercise clothing coupled with sweating can lead to skin irritations. Avoid clothing that is too restricting and apply a nice moisturiser or powder to the areas that are most prone to irritation.
  • If swimming is your exercise of choice, be sure to rinse off as soon as possible. Chlorinated pools and salt water can be dehydrating to the skin and hair.
